Duration Converter
Edit any field to convert instantly between all other units. Works both directions.
Units
How it works
Type a number into any unit field (milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days or weeks) and every other field updates as you type. The conversion works in both directions: go from minutes to days or from days back to minutes just by editing the value you care about. A composite breakdown below shows the same duration expressed as a human-readable combination (e.g. "1 hour, 30 minutes").
Typical situations where the tool saves time: you read a timeout configured as 14,400,000 milliseconds and want to know it's 4 hours; you ship a log-retention policy that says 604,800 seconds and want to confirm that is exactly 7 days; you configure a cron interval in minutes but your dashboard displays it in hours; or you are estimating an editing timeline and want to convert shot durations from seconds into an hours-and-minutes total for a client.
The math is intentionally simple and round: 1 second = 1,000 ms; 1 minute = 60 seconds; 1 hour = 3,600 seconds; 1 day = 86,400 seconds; 1 week = 604,800 seconds. Leap seconds and daylight-saving time are not applied, because they don't affect raw duration arithmetic. They are a calendar concern, not a duration concern. For "what is the date 3 days from now?" use the Date Calculator instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many minutes is 86400 milliseconds?
- 1.44 minutes. 86400 milliseconds (86,400) divided by 1,000 is 86.4 seconds, and 86.4 divided by 60 is 1.44 minutes. The number trips people up because 86,400 seconds is exactly 1 day, so it looks like it ought to come out rounder than it does.
How many hours is 14400000 ms?
- Exactly 4 hours. 14400000 milliseconds (14,400,000) ÷ 1,000 = 14,400 seconds, and 14,400 ÷ 3,600 = 4. Half of it, 7,200,000 ms, is 2 hours; 3,600,000 ms is 1 hour.
How many seconds are in 30 days?
- 2,592,000 seconds, written plain as 2592000. Step by step: 30 × 24 = 720 hours, 720 × 60 = 43,200 minutes, 43,200 × 60 = 2,592,000 seconds. In milliseconds that is 2,592,000,000.
How many units does it support?
- Six units: milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks. Edit any one and the others convert automatically.
Can I convert minutes to days?
- Yes. Type a value into the Minutes field and the Days field updates to the equivalent duration. The same works in the opposite direction, and for every other pair (seconds↔hours, minutes↔weeks, etc.).
What is the composite breakdown?
- A natural-language version of the duration. 90 minutes becomes "1 hour, 30 minutes"; 200 hours becomes "1 week, 1 day, 8 hours". Useful when you need to communicate a duration to a human rather than a computer.
Are decimal values supported?
- Yes. You can type fractional values like 1.5 hours or 0.25 days; all other units update to the exact equivalent.
Does it account for leap seconds or daylight-saving time?
- No. Duration arithmetic ignores calendar effects on purpose: leap seconds and DST only matter when you are asking "what wall-clock time is X duration from now?". For that, use the Date Calculator. For "how long is this interval?", the plain arithmetic this tool does is always correct.
Why use this instead of the general Unit Converter?
- Because you get all six units at once. The Unit Converter converts between one unit and one other unit at a time, while the Duration Converter shows every unit simultaneously plus the human-readable breakdown, which is almost always what you actually want for time durations.

A "month" is not a fixed unit: use 30 days for a rough business month and the exact day count when a specific calendar month matters. For "what is the date 3 days from now?" use the Date Calculator instead.
