Days Until Calculator
107 days until Christmas 2026 (Fri 25 Dec)
How it works
Pick a target date, or tap one of the preset chips, and the countdown starts. The big number is the days between today and that date. Under it a clock counts down the rest of today, and below that the same span is broken into weeks, calendar months, hours, minutes, weekends and working days. Nothing is submitted and nothing needs a button: the figures update as you change the date and as the seconds pass.
The counting rule, stated plainly. Today is not counted, the target day is. On 24 December the page reads 1 day until Christmas; on 25 December it reads Today. Another way to put it: the number is how many midnights are still ahead of you, which is how people say it out loud and how an advent calendar behaves. If you want the inclusive count instead, the number of calendar squares the range covers including today, add one. That is the figure you want for holiday entitlement or days of attendance, and it is always one higher, for the same reason a hotel charges four nights for a five-day stay.
The clock. The hours, minutes and seconds under the big number count down to your next local midnight, not to the target moment. They reach 00:00:00 at the same instant the day number drops by one, so the two never contradict each other. The Hours and Minutes rows give you the other view: the whole remaining span expressed in each unit, which is the number you want when the target is a launch or a deadline rather than a holiday.
Weeks, months and the leftovers. 108 days is 15 weeks and 3 days. Months are calendar months, not the day count divided by 30: from 8 September to 25 December is 3 months and 17 days, because the tool steps three whole months to 8 December and then counts the remainder. Month arithmetic clamps to the end of a short month, so 31 January plus one month is 28 February, or 29 February in a leap year. Every calendar has to make that choice and clamping is the choice nearly all of them make.
Weekends and working days. Working days counts Monday to Friday only: from 8 September 2026 to Christmas there are 108 days but 78 working days. Public holidays are not deducted, because they vary by country, by region within a country and sometimes by employer, and a wrong holiday list is worse than none. Subtract the ones that fall in your range to get the true business-day figure. Weekends are counted by their Saturday, so the same span contains 15 weekends.
Time zones. The countdown runs on your device's clock and on your local midnight. Christmas begins at midnight where you are, not at midnight in London, so a countdown pinned to UTC would be a day out for a lot of the planet for part of every day. The day count is measured from local midnight to local midnight and rounded, which means the 23-hour and 25-hour days that occur when the clocks change cannot push it off by one. If you need to convert an actual time of day between zones, the Time Zone Converter on this site does that.
The presets. Nine chips: Christmas, New Year's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Valentine's Day, the first day of summer, the first day of winter, and Today plus 100 days. Each one jumps to the NEXT occurrence, today included, so clicking Christmas on 25 December gives you today rather than skipping a year. The fixed-date holidays (25 December, 1 January, 31 October, 14 February) roll into next year once the date has gone. The first day of summer and the first day of winter use 21 June and 21 December, the conventional northern-hemisphere dates; the astronomical solstice actually drifts between the 20th and the 22nd, and meteorological seasons start on 1 June and 1 December instead. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, so it moves between the 22nd and the 28th: 26 November in 2026, 25 November in 2027.
Why Easter moves, and how it is worked out. Easter is the only major Western holiday still fixed by a lunisolar rule. It falls on the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March, which gives it a 35-day window from 22 March to 25 April. The word ecclesiastical matters: the church uses a fixed 19-year lunar cycle rather than the real moon, so the computed date can differ by a day or two from the astronomical full moon. This page computes it with the Anonymous Gregorian algorithm, also published as Meeus, Jones and Butcher, which is pure arithmetic on the year number with no lookup table. Easter is 5 April in 2026, 28 March in 2027 and 16 April in 2028. That is Western Easter; the Orthodox churches apply the same rule on the Julian calendar and usually land on a different Sunday.
The share line. Under the breakdown sits a sentence you can paste anywhere: "108 days until Christmas 2026 (Fri 25 Dec)". The Copy button puts it on your clipboard. When you type your own date instead of using a chip, the line names the full date and weekday instead of a holiday.
Reduced motion. A ticking seconds digit is a moving element on the page. If your system is set to prefers-reduced-motion: reduce, the countdown refreshes once a minute instead of once a second, and every figure stays correct.
For spans between two dates you choose yourself, the Date Calculator on this site handles days and working days in both directions, and Weeks Between Dates answers the weeks question directly. Everything here is computed by JavaScript in your browser: there is no backend, and changing the date fires no request. Open DevTools, watch the Network tab, and confirm.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many days until Christmas?
- The big number at the top of this page is the live answer, counted from your device's clock. As an example, from 8 September 2026 there are 108 days until Christmas Day on Friday 25 December 2026, which is 15 weeks and 3 days, or 78 working days. The count excludes today and includes 25 December, so on Christmas Eve it reads 1 and on Christmas Day it reads Today.
How many days until the new year?
- Click the New Year's Day chip and the page counts to the next 1 January. From 8 September 2026 that is 115 days to Friday 1 January 2027, or 16 weeks and 3 days. The number on this page is live, so it drops by one at your own midnight rather than at midnight UTC.
How many days until Halloween?
- Click the Halloween chip for the next 31 October. From 8 September 2026 that is 53 days to Saturday 31 October 2026, which is 7 weeks and 4 days and includes 8 weekends. Halloween is a fixed date, so the count is the plain number of days between today and 31 October, with today not counted.
How many weeks until Christmas?
- Divide the day count by 7, which the Weeks and days row does for you. 108 days until Christmas is 15 weeks and 3 days. The remainder matters: rounding 108 days to 15 weeks throws away three days, and rounding up to 16 invents four. If weeks between two dates of your own is what you need, the Weeks Between Dates calculator on this site is the direct tool.
Does the countdown include today?
- No. Today is excluded and the target day is included, so 24 December to 25 December is 1 day and 25 December itself reads Today rather than 1. The number is effectively how many midnights are left. For the inclusive count, the number of calendar days the range touches including today, add one: that is the version you want for holiday entitlement or days of attendance.
What time zone does it use?
- Your own. The countdown reads your device's clock and measures to local midnight on the target date, so Christmas starts at midnight where you are. A countdown pinned to UTC would show the wrong number for anyone east or west of London for part of every day. The arithmetic runs midnight to midnight and is rounded, so daylight saving changes cannot shift the day count by one.
How is Easter's date calculated?
- Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March, which puts it somewhere in a 35-day window between 22 March and 25 April. The church uses a fixed 19-year lunar cycle rather than the observed moon, so the date is computable from the year alone. This page uses the Anonymous Gregorian algorithm (Meeus, Jones and Butcher): Easter is 5 April in 2026, 28 March in 2027 and 16 April in 2028. Orthodox Easter applies the same rule on the Julian calendar and usually falls on a different Sunday.
How many days until Thanksgiving?
- US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, so it moves between the 22nd and the 28th: 26 November in 2026, 25 November in 2027, 23 November in 2028. From 8 September 2026 that is 79 days, or 11 weeks and 2 days. The Thanksgiving chip computes the fourth Thursday for you rather than reading it off a list. Canadian Thanksgiving is a different holiday, the second Monday of October, and is not one of the presets.
How many working days are there until a date?
- The Working days row counts Monday to Friday only. From 8 September 2026 to Christmas there are 108 calendar days but 78 working days and 15 weekends. Public holidays are not deducted, because they differ by country, by region and sometimes by employer, so subtract the ones that fall inside your range: with eight public holidays in the period, 78 working days becomes 70.
Is my data stored?
- No. This is a static page with no backend and no database. The date you pick is held in the page while the tab is open and is never transmitted, saved or logged. You can confirm it by opening DevTools, switching to the Network tab and changing the date: no request is made.
Fixed and moving holidays: the rule and the next two dates
Four of these fall on the same calendar date every year. Easter and Thanksgiving are computed from a rule, which is why they move.
| Holiday | Date rule | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day | 1 January, fixed | Thu 1 Jan | Fri 1 Jan |
| Valentine's Day | 14 February, fixed | Sat 14 Feb | Sun 14 Feb |
| Easter Sunday (Western) | First Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March | Sun 5 Apr | Sun 28 Mar |
| First day of summer | 21 June by convention (astronomical solstice varies) | Sun 21 Jun | Mon 21 Jun |
| Halloween | 31 October, fixed | Sat 31 Oct | Sun 31 Oct |
| Thanksgiving (US) | Fourth Thursday of November | Thu 26 Nov | Thu 25 Nov |
| First day of winter | 21 December by convention (astronomical solstice varies) | Mon 21 Dec | Tue 21 Dec |
| Christmas Day | 25 December, fixed | Fri 25 Dec | Sat 25 Dec |
Easter can only fall between 22 March and 25 April, a 35-day window; the earliest date in the whole Gregorian era is 22 March 2285 and the most recent 25 April was 1943. The solstice rows use the conventional 21st: the astronomical solstice drifts between the 20th and the 22nd, and meteorological summer and winter begin on 1 June and 1 December.
